A few words on the project…
As part of a new joint venture set up between three parties, SUEZ environnement has obtained a 30-year concession contract, that may be extended for another 20 years, for the treatment of industrial water from the Chongqing Changshou Chemical and Industrial Park.
Background or General project description
The primary challenge for the partnership between SUEZ environnement and the Chinese authorities of Chongqing is to define the characteristics of new industrial eco-parks, pillars of the new circular economy of a Chinese society undergoing radical change. SUEZ environnement supports local governments and industrial operators in the implementation of innovative environmental solutions.
SUEZ environnement is developing a new concession that involves the treatment of industrial water from the Chongqing Changshou Chemical and Industrial Park (CCCIP).
Located in the north-eastern part of the city of Chongqing and spread over 31.3 km² for its first phase, under China’s central government plan CCCIP is set to become one of the largest centres dedicated to the chemical industry and to new energy sources in western China.
Since its construction in 2003, 90 companies have settled on the site, including 13 from the worldwide ranks of the Fortune 500. The park means to become the crucial springboard for the industrial development of the region of the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze river, one of China’s circular economy pilot zones and an integrated chemical and industrial park that is home to gas chemicals, petrochemicals, biochemicals, fine chemicals and new materials operators.
The new joint venture has been awarded the management and modernisation of the current water production and wastewater treatment facilities using cutting-edge technologies.
Its responsibilities will include improving the management system in order to guarantee the production and distribution of industrial water, the collection of the site’s industrial effluents and deliver water treatment services to all companies on the park, with the ultimate goal of making the site a genuine "eco-park".
As part of the modernisation project, the plant will reach an industrial water production capacity of 240,000 m3/day and effluent treatment will reach 40,000 m3/day to support the development of future projects.
Strengths of project
The Chongqing Changshou Chemical and Industrial Park (CCCIP), a large industrial ecological complex, is a Chinese national pilot site.
With an installation covering a total area of 31.3 km², its main activities focus on the distribution of drinking water and the treatment of sludge and wastewater from the northern part of the city and from CCCIP.
CCCIP is set to become one of the largest centres dedicated to the chemical industry and to new energy sources for western China. As an emerging ecological role model for the whole of Asia, CCCIP is the perfect place to showcase the contribution SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT makes to the circular economy.
