SAFEGE will also be assessing projects for their environmental and social impacts, with the aim of identifying key issues and constraints, and the associated benefits and drawbacks.

Objectives:

Faced with an expanding population, rapid urbanisation, and a boom in tourism in recent years, Myanmar’s second city, Mandalay, with a population of 1,250,000, is seeking to pursue a path of sustainable development and to promote itself as "Mandalay Green City ".

.

Key project features and highlights:

The study carried out by SAFEGE ties into the "Mandalay Green City" plan and aims to put every initiative and action into a wider spatial development plan embracing the workings of the city in an integrated manner. In each field, the aim is to investigate and develop solutions that make for concrete projects that can be implemented on completion of the study – projects that would deliver innovative value for the country, and improvements in terms of energy efficiency, environmental performance and the impacts on the environment and the population.

Special features of the French offering:

SAFEGE is deploying a multi-disciplinary capability that goes beyond a sector-based approach to provide a bespoke response to Mandalay’s sustainability challenges. SAFEGE’s input ahead of the design, build and management stages has helped build a dialogue with the competent local authorities and will allow French companies to promote their know-how to other cities in Myanmar, besides Mandalay.
